Webinar: The Narrative approach with people experiencing suicidal thoughts and people bereaved by suicide

David will speak about his work using the narrative approach with those who experience suicidal thoughts as well as those who are bereaved by suicide. He will include stories of his work and in particular, a postvention project he undertook with his colleague, Marnie Sather.

The following topics will be covered in the webinar:

• Considering the crucial role of context when considering suicide and suicidal experience

• A brief discussion about language

• Responding to suicide: A narrative project linking the knowledge of families and friends bereaved by suicide

David will present for 45 minutes followed by a 15-minute question and answer session

The webinar is free for practitioners and people bereaved by suicide. To register, please email griefjourneysworkshops@gmail.com. Registrants will receive the meeting link, and a certificate of attendance on completion of the webinar.

Biography: David Newman lives and works in Sydney. He is a faculty member of The Dulwich Centre and an honorary clinical fellow at University of Melbourne School of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. With The Dulwich Centre, he has had wonderful opportunities to teach in different countries including, Rwanda, Brazil, Canada, Nepal, Greece, China, India, Turkey, Hong Kong and Palestine, as well as around Australia. He has extensive experience in individual, couple and family therapy, primarily through his independent therapy practice Sydney Narrative Therapy, and currently works part time as a group therapist at ‘Uspace’, a psychiatric unit for young people in Sydney.
